Rogue Flash Gels attach quickly and are easy-to-use:

Use Rogue Round Flash Gels with Round Flashes or Rectangular (Speedlight) Flashes

Color Correction Kit Collection:Includes 20 Gels (2x each of 10 colors): 1/8 CTO, 1/4 CTO, 1/2 CTO, Full CTO, 1/4 CTB, 1/2 CTB, 1/4 Plus Green, 1/2 Plus Green, .3 Neutral Density (1 f/stop), White Diffusion (2 f/stop). Kit also includes a storage pouch and handy reference guide for using color correction gels.

Printed Gels Are Easy-to-Use:  Rogue Flash Gels are easy-to-use with the color and f/stop loss values printed on each gel.  The white balance correction gels also include the kelvin color correction and corresponding white balance reference printed on each gel.

All lighting filters absorb light, and the f/stop loss tells you exactly how much light is absorbed by a particular filter.  The f/stop loss values printed on our Rogue Gels were measured with a light meter in a controlled test.  These values compare the metered exposure of the bare flash with the metered exposure of the flash with the Rogue Gels attached.

Lightweight and Durable:  We make our Rogue Flash Gels from LEE Filters UK materials.  They are made with a tough polyester film that will not tear, and they are so lightweight that you can easily slide the entire collection into your shirt pocket.

Use with Rogue Flash Magnetic Light Modifiers:  Using Rogue Gels requires 2 Rogue light modifiers (sold separately). Simply place Rogue gels between any two stackable magnetic modifiers (Rogue Flash Gel Lens, Rogue Flash Grid 45, or Rogue Flash Diffuser Dome).

Round Flash Compatibility:  Rogue Round Flash Gels have a maximum diameter of 71.5mm that fits other round flash modifier systems.  Rogue Round Flash Gels are compatible with Godox (V1, R100, and HR200 head for AD200), Geekoto (GT 250, GTR), Westcott FJ80 flashes. Using Rogue Round Flash Gels with Profoto A series flashes (A1, A1x, A10, A2) also requires the Rogue PF Adapter and Rogue Gel Lens (sold separately).

  • Flashpoint XR2, 100 Pro, eVOLV 200
  • Godox V1, R100, HR200 head for AD200
  • Geekoto GT250, GTR
  • Neewer Z1
  • Westcott FJ80
  • Profoto A1, A1X, A10, A2 (with Rogue PF Adapter - sold separately)

Rectangular Flash Compatibility (Speedlights): Rogue Round Flash Gels can also be used with rectangular speedlight flashes when combined with the Rogue Flash Adapter (Standard or Small) and Rogue magnetic modifiers (sold separately).

What is a Rogue Flash Gel?  Professional photographic gels, or lighting filters are are made from specially dyed polyester films designed to transmit a specific quantity and color of light.  Rogue Flash Gels are manufactured from a curated collection of professional lighting filter material that we process into kits specially designed for use with round flashes and rectangular speedlight flashes in wedding and event portrait photography.

How to Use Color Correction Gels.  Color correction gels are typically used when photographing with flash to help improve your color balance.  Your images will look more natural, and you will save valuable time color correcting your image files by using color correction gels whenever you shoot with flash.  For example, use a CTO gel when shooting in tungsten, halogen, or incandescent ambient light.  Use a CTB gel when shooting in open shade, or in a room with a north facing window.  Use Plus Green gels in combination with CTO gels whenever shooting in rooms lit with fluorescent light tubes.  We include a reference card with easy-to-follow instructions to help you identify which gels to use in some of the most common lighting situations.

How to Color Balance Your Flash with Rogue Flash Gels.  Identify the dominant ambient light source, select the corresponding color correction gel(s), then attach the gel(s) to your flash.  It is important to then set a custom white balance on your camera (we recommend using the ExpoDisc), or set the camera to the same white balance setting as printed on the attached color correction gel.

Attach CTO gels to your flash to color balance your flash to warmer light sources:

Full CTO for 3,000K ambient light (halogen, incandescent, tungsten)
1/2 CTO for 3,500K ambient light (sunrise, sunset)
1/4 CTO for 4,200K ambient light (cool white LED)
1/8 CTO for 5000K ambient light (warm daylight)

Attach CTB gels to your flash to color balance your flash to cooler light sources:

1/2 CTB for 10000K ambient light (shade)
1/4 CTB for 7100K ambient light (cloudy)

Attach Plus Green gels to your flash in combination with CTO gels to color balance your flash to fluorescent light sources:

1/2 Plus Green + 1/2 CTO for 3,500K fluorescent tubes
1/2 Plus Green + 1/4 CTO for 4,200K fluorescent tubes
1/2 Plus Green + 1/8 CTO for 5,000K fluorescent tubes
1/2 Plus Green (do not add CTO) for 5700K fluorescent tubes

Fluorescent tubes vary in their spectral power distribution, a term used for the relative energy a tube emits across the visible spectrum.  Use the 1/2 Plus Green gel when color balancing your flash to fluorescent tubes with low CRI values, and use the 1/4 Plus Green gel when color balancing to fluorescent tubes with high CRI values.  We also recommend setting a custom white balance whenever color balancing your flash to fluorescent tubes because the wide range of fluorescent tube color temperatures often found installed in a single location requires an accurate custom white balance to ensure good color balance.
